QuiltCon Charity Sew Day

WE are excited to inform you of the date and location for our QuiltCon Charity Sew Day.

We are gathering from 9:00 a.m.  to 5:00 p.m.

on

Saturday, October 22, 2016, at

Holy Rosary Catholic Church
3400 R Street
Richmond VA 23223
This is Candra Parker’s church and she will be our hostess. The church is located in the East End/Church Hill area of the City of Richmond — perfect for making our river scrappy applique.

—Please bring a pot luck item for lunch. We’ll provide the snacks.

In case you’re wondering, we could not find a date at Quilting Adventures in October on the weekend. But, if you need fabric for this charity challenge, they have the right shades of pink, silver, white, citrus and yarrow.

The background blocks are due at our October meeting.

For the river, bring scraps of blue to the Sew Day on October 22. For reference, these are Kona Ultramarine, Kona Hyacinth, and Kona Ocean.

See you October 22!

From Our Heart to Yours

We were so sad when we learned of the murders of 49 people at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, on June 12, 2016.

The president of the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild asked for “heart” blocks so  that they could make quilts for the victims, their families, and the local emergency services personnel and police.

Our member, Ana, asked members through our Community page of the MQG website if members wanted to make a quilt we could send.

We were happy to turn our sadness into a quilt for the people of Orlando directly affected by this terrible tragedy. We made blocks and Ana assembled them.

Jennie, a member and longarm specialist at Virginia Longarm, quilted it with more hearts.

We recently sent it to the Orlando Modern Quilt Guild.

From our heart to yours,

pulse-quilt-2016

Tips, Tricks and Techniques

DO YOU HAVE a quilting tip to share?

What about a special or favorite tool, or perhaps a trick to doing something quilty?

If you do, don’t be shy.

Please bring your tool/trick/technique to the September 6, 2016 meeting.

This is just a casual sharing. If it’s a tool, please bring it and tell us why it’s special, or if you want to show us a technique/trick and bring an example.

Our meeting program will focus on sharing each member’s tool/ tip/trick for the group.

The board will lead off with some of their favorites to get it all going.

See you at the Tuckahoe Public Library, 1901 Starling Drive, Henrico, VA 23229!

We are making a Quilt for Pulse

WE ARE making and collecting heart blocks to create a quilt to send to the Orlando MQG. They plan to give the quilts to the family and friends of the victims of the shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando and to the survivors. They have a goal of 102 quilts.

Ana will assemble the quilt top, and Jennie will quilt it.

What you need to know:

–Any size heart is fine. We prefer a 10.5″ unfinished block to make it easier to assemble.

–Any number of blocks is fine. Make as many as you can or want.

–We prefer a light background — low volume, light gray, or white on white.

–The hearts should be in rainbow colors — prints or solids.

–Ana will make it work.Quilt for Pulse

Here is a heart block pattern you might want to use:

The Modern Quilt Guild also has a post with links to other heart blocks.

DELIVER BLOCKS TO

QUILTING ADVENTURES BY Sunday, JULY 10.
