October Tara Faughnan Workshop!

On Saturday, Oct. 25, CVAMQG is offering an online workshop with Tara Faughnan. Tara has spent the past 20+ years stitching her way through color palettes, quilt blocks, and creative experiments that don’t always go according to plan—and she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Tara Faughnan

“Quilting, for me, is more than just a craft. It’s a way of slowing down, playing with color, solving little puzzles, and finding joy in the process (even when I’m seam-ripping!),” she says. With a background in textile design, Tara’s creative soul belongs to quilting—especially when she gets to share that love with other curious, creative minds.

On Monday, October 6th, at 7-8 pm EST, Tara presents a lecture, “Value Creates the Design” via Zoom. The lecture is FREE for CVAMQG members and $15 for non-members.

On Saturday, October 25th, at 10am-4pm EST, Tara offers her workshop, “Bokeh Quilt Color and Design” via Zoom. The workshop is $125 for CVAMQG members and $150 for non-members. Refund given only if there is a replacement for your spot. Workshop is limited to 24 students.

VALUE CREATES THE DESIGN – LECTURE

Join Tara in a talk all about why value is one of the most important and essential design tools at our disposal.  Tara will present a lot of pictures so you can clearly see how value plays a role in creating movement, tension or flow in the design of a quilt, and she’ll leave you with a few exercises you can take forward into your own quilt making.

BOKEH QUILT COLOR AND DESIGN – WORKSHOP

The Bokeh Quilt is an exploration into creating rhythm through the use of color and value. Rather than relying on shape to create a design, we will use value and contrast to create movement and tell a story.  Whether you choose to use precise piecing, or go ruler-free for this quilt, the design employs a method of strip piecing to make the sewing fast, easy and fun.

About Cheryl (in her own words):

Back when I started quilting it was practically unheard of for a 23-year-old to do so, but there I was. Now, over 25 years later, I haven’t stopped. In addition to my own creative work, I love to teach, write books, spread the gospel of improv, and design quilts. Every now and then I make a garment my Grade 8 home-ec teacher would be proud of. When it comes to making I am happy to make what inspires. I am well known for my use of bold colour and the quiet whispers of low-volume fabrics but I will use anything in between as well. Use what you love, make what makes you happy. Just get your butt in the seat and sew. I am a huge proponent of play and through The Quilters’ Playcation lead us all on adventures! In the past decade I’ve published three books: Sunday Morning Quilts (co-authored with Amanda Jean Nyberg), A Month of Sundays, and You Inspire Me to Quilt. I’ve also travelled the world to teach quilting and have even judged QuiltCon. In between I am raising three active kids and running a business with my husband. Sometimes, I sleep.
