Chicago textile artist Amanda Nadig will offer a lecture and two in-person workshops in Richmond July 17-20. Amanda finds inspiration in keeping with and breaking away from traditions in quilting. Her hand quilted compositions explore colors and shapes sourced from secondhand garments and home textiles. Amanda’s high school art students have a great influence on her work; she explores balance, embraces chance, and experiments endlessly in her artistic practice.

Lecture and Trunk Show (in-person and virtual options) – FREE!
Thursday July 17, 2025 – 6-7:30 P.M.
Amanda will share her quilt journey from 2019 through today through storytelling, photos, and a trunk show. She will discuss what inspires and excites her and how she approaches a new quilt. Amanda will also discuss how she keeps up a daily artistic practice while working full-time. (A link to the Zoom presentation will be sent just prior to the lecture.)
Quilt-As-You-Go with Found Fabrics (mini-quilt 1/2-day workshop)
Friday July 18, 2025 – 9 A.M.-12 P.M.
This workshop is perfect for quilters at any level. Participants will sew small quilts by hand using a simple running stitch. The quilt-as-you-go technique is a great way to use up scraps and can be a great project to take on the go! Participants will piece and quilt the project at the same time and then finish with a fold-over binding technique. Bring any fabric (old clothes, scraps, etc.) in any size or shape. All fabric textures welcome, including stretchy, sheer, etc.! These are great works for gift-giving, small art pieces, mug rugs and more.
